Medicaid Buy-In Program for Children with Disabilites

On July 1, 2012, the state of Colorado launched the Medicaid Buy-In Program for Children with Disabilities, also known as the Children’s Buy-In.

This program lets families of children with a disability who qualify to ‘buy-into’ Colorado Medicaid for that child. If your child and/or your family earns too much for Colorado Medicaid or CHP+ your child may qualify. If your child does qualify, you may pay a monthly premium based on your family’s income to be in the program.

To find out if you qualify and to see what your monthly premium would be, go to the fact sheet from the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

Your child must have a qualifying disability based on the Social Security Administration (SSA) listings and be under the age of 19.

In order to apply for the program, you will have to complete a Medicaid application and a disability determination packet.  That packet is forwarded to an outside agency to complete the determination.  Once that determination has been made and the application has been processed, you will receive a letter to let you know if you qualified for the program and what the monthly premium will be.

To apply, contact a Family Health Coordinator in the Healthy Communities Program at Pueblo StepUp at 719-557-5886.  They can help guide you through the application process. thank you
