On July 1, 2012, the state of Colorado launched the Medicaid Buy-In Program for Children with Disabilities, also known as the Children’s Buy-In.
This program lets families of children with a disability who qualify to ‘buy-into’ Colorado Medicaid for that child. If your child and/or your family earns too much for Colorado Medicaid or CHP+ your child may qualify. If your child does qualify, you may pay a monthly premium based on your family’s income to be in the program.

Your child must have a qualifying disability based on the Social Security Administration (SSA) listings and be under the age of 19.
In order to apply for the program, you will have to complete a Medicaid application and a disability determination packet. That packet is forwarded to an outside agency to complete the determination. Once that determination has been made and the application has been processed, you will receive a letter to let you know if you qualified for the program and what the monthly premium will be.
