Child Health Plan Plus

What is CHP+?

Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) is a low-cost health insurance program for uninsured Colorado children ages 18 and under whose families earn too much to qualify for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program), but cannot afford private insurance.

Who Is Eligible for CHP+?

Children and youth ages 18 and under can receive CHP+ if:

  • Your family meets income requirements
  • You are NOT eligible for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program)
  • You are residents of Colorado
  • You are U.S. citizens or have been permanent U.S. residents for more than 5 years
  • You have no other health insurance

Pregnant women ages 19+ who meet eligibility requirements can also receive CHP+ services. Our Family Health Coordinators can help you understand if you might be eligible or not, and how to apply.

What does CHP+ Cost?

The cost of CHP+ depends on your family size and income. Our Family Health Coordinators can help you understand what the costs would be for your family.

Here’s how it works:

  • Pregnant women have no enrollment fees and only have co-pays for non-prenatal care
  • There are no enrollment fees or co-pays for Native Americans and Alaskan Natives
  • There may be an annual enrollment fee for some families
  • There may be co-pays of $1-$50 for some medical and dental services and emergency and urgent care visits

CHP+ Services

People on CHP+ receive health care through a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). An HMO is a group of doctors, nurses, hospitals and other providers who work together to give patients health care.

People on CHP+ must visit a provider who is in their CHP+ HMO. Our Family Health Coordinators can help you find the right kind of provider to meet your needs, who is part of your HMO.

Pregnant women will be enrolled in the CHP+ State Managed Care Network.

CHP+ Benefits

Your CHP+ benefits may vary depending on your situation. Please contact or meet with a Family Health Coordinator to help you understand exactly which benefits apply to you.
