What Is Health First Colorado?

Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program)  is a state/federal program to help make sure that people who can’t afford health insurance can still receive the care they need.

Health First Colorado offers health coverage to nearly 60 million children, families, pregnant women, the elderly and people with disabilities around the country. It covers US citizens and also eligible immigrants.

What Does Health First Colorado Cost?

If you qualify for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program), you will have either no expenses or small co-pays for the care you receive, depending on your circumstances.

Here’s how it works:

  • There are no enrollment fees for Health First Colorado
  • Children 18 and under have no co-pays for any services
  • Pregnant women (any age) have no co-pays for any services
  • Persons 19 and over have small co-pays for doctor visits, prescription drugs, laboratory tests, durable medical equipment and hospital stays.

Health First Colorado Eligibility

Eligibility for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) is based mainly on family income. If your income falls within published Federal Income Guidelines, you may qualify. To find out for sure if you and/or your children qualify for Health First Colorado, please contact us.

You will need to make an appointment for us to process your Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program)  application. When you call we’ll walk you through exactly what you need to bring to the appointment so that your application can be processed as quickly as possible.

Even if you don’t have all of the documents, we can begin helping you apply for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and stamp the application to establish the date you applied.

We issue you a temporary benefits card based on the date your Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) application is submitted so that you will have 45 days of temporary coverage while your application is processed. When the application receives final approval, you will receive a Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) card.

  • Lab and blood tests, such as testing for lead poisoning
  • Behavioral health screenings and services
  • Family planning
  • Pregnancy testing and prenatal care
  • Prescription drugs

  • Lab and blood tests
  • Mental and behavioral health services
  • Pregnancy testing and prenatal care

  • Family planning after the birth of a child
  • Dental care, limited to $1000/year

Transportation Services

People on Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program)  in Colorado are also eligible for Non-Emergency Medical Transportation services to medical appointments.

Your Family Health Coordinator can help you with this process. You must complete an application and have it approved before the date of your medical appointment.
